Why do your documents need a stamp?

Stamp duty is a tax on documents. Without a valid stamp, your document risks being considered as not meeting the requirements when used as evidence.

⚖️

Strong as evidence

Stamped documents are ready to be used as evidence in court in accordance with the applicable regulations.

🛡️

Cannot be forged

Every e-Meterai has a unique serial number and a digital signature, so its authenticity can be checked.

⏱️

Done without printing

No need to print, stick on a stamp, and scan again. Your document stays digital from start to finish.

Know the Genuine Features

How to tell a genuine e-Meterai from a fake

A common scam: an image or screenshot of a stamp is pasted manually onto a document, so it looks as if the document has been stamped. A genuine e-Meterai has four features regulated by PMK (Minister of Finance Regulation) No. 78 of 2024 — and most importantly, it cannot be copied.

Example of an official IDR 10,000 e-Meterai issued by Peruri: the Garuda Pancasila national emblem, the words Meterai Elektronik, the value 10000/Sepuluh Ribu Rupiah, and a unique QR code pattern around it1 2 3 4

Example of an official e-Meterai · source: Peruri

  1. 1
    The Garuda Pancasila national emblem

Every stamp bears the national emblem as a sign that it was issued by an official authority, not an image made or downloaded at random.

  2. 2
    Face value of IDR 10,000

The number 10000 and the words "SEPULUH RIBU RUPIAH" (ten thousand rupiah) are clearly printed — the only e-Meterai denomination in force since the latest Stamp Duty Law.

  3. 3
    The words "METERAI ELEKTRONIK"

Meaning "electronic stamp", these words distinguish it from a physical paper stamp. They are deliberately printed clearly so they are easy to recognise even when the document is opened on a small screen.

  4. 4
    Unique QR code (serial number)

Every stamp has a code that is different from all others and is issued only once. This is the hardest feature to forge — a copy-pasted stamp image will have exactly the same code on every document, and that is a sign it is fake.

The surest way: scan the QR code on the e-Meterai with any QR app, or verify its authenticity at e-meterai.co.id — the official website of Peruri (Indonesia's state security printer). If the code cannot be verified or has already been used on another document, the stamp is not valid.

Frequently asked questions

Is e-Meterai legally valid?

Yes. Law No. 10 of 2020 on Stamp Duty places electronic documents on an equal footing with paper documents as objects of stamp duty, so e-Meterai has the same legal force as a paper stamp.

Can one stamp be reused?

No. Every e-Meterai has a unique serial number and can only be affixed once, to one document. Once affixed, the stamp is locked to that document and cannot be moved.

How is it different from a digital signature?

They serve different purposes. A stamp fulfils the tax obligation on a document, while a digital signature proves the signer's consent. A single document may need both.

Which documents do not need a stamp?

Documents that are not objects of stamp duty under Law No. 10 of 2020 — for example, documents stating an amount of money up to IDR 5,000,000. If in doubt, consult us first.

How do I check whether an e-Meterai is genuine?

An e-Meterai contains a unique serial number and a digital signature embedded in the PDF file, so its authenticity can be checked with a PDF reader that supports digital certificate verification.
